Mantra Meditation for Wealth and Prosperity
88
The Hindu Goddess Lakshmi
The meditation I want to share with you uses an easy to learn mantra to attract wealth and prosperity through the positive energies of the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi (quite often spelled Laxmi). She governs many positive attributes including wealth, prosperity, courage, light, generosity and wisdom. Lakshmi is typically depicted as an extremely beautiful woman with four arms. Descriptions of Lakshmi vary somewhat. I will describe the most common form I have seen represented.
Lakshmi sits on a pink lotus flower which is floating on the water. The lotus on the water represents purity and spirituality, or transcendance. Growing out of the mud, it floats above it. The seated yoga meditation position called padmasana or in western terms, the lotus position, has its roots in the very same symbolism. The lotus can also be said to represent the evolution of conciousness. From the mire of consciousness it transcends into spiritual unity.
Clothed in the finest garments and bedecked with jewels, gold coins of prosperity flow from her lower right hand. Her lower left hand is held in a meditative Mudra position. A Mudra is a symbolic positioning of the hand, fingers or body, there are traditionally 108 different Mudras.
In many representations of Lakshmi you will see two elephants flanking her, spraying water. The elephants represent royalty, in Hindu symbolism elephants also remove obstacles. Her upper hands are holding perfect lotus flowers. Lakshmi is repeatedly associated with the lotus flower in Hindu lore. In the ancient text called the Mahabharata, it states that Lakshmi was born from a lotus which grew out of Vishnu's head. Vishnu is considered the supreme God in Hindu tradition.
Laxmi's Dream
I first learned of the Laxmi meditation while listening to a compilation of meditation music by Caitlin called Laxmi's Dream: Sacred Mantras. The album is a collection of Hindu and Tibetan mantras passed on to her by her teacher. The mantras are repeated with beautiful singing by Caitlin and accompaniment with didgeridoo and various instruments by her husband Sika.
Listening to Caitlin's sacred mantras is a powerful meditation in its own right. You can just drift and let the sounds infuse your being with peace and tranquility. I have used it to great effect to heal myself. It is the single most powerful collection of ancient Sanskrit and Tibetan mantras I have ever heard. Friends of mine who have listened to it all agree that it is exceptional.
The Laxmi mantra in English writing looks like this:
Om Shrim Maha Lakshmi Yei Swaha
To pronounce it, it sounds like:
Ohmm Shreem Maha Lok-Shmee Yayee Svahaa
Om begins the mantra as a sacred exclamation, it precedes traditional mantras and prayers.
Shrim is a vibration to attract abundance.
Maha means great.
Laxmi represents the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Swaha is another vibration that attracts abundance and prosperity.
Mantra Meditation Technique
To begin the meditation, find yourself a comfortable position where you will not be disturbed while you meditate. Ultimately you should be sitting in the full lotus position if you are able. However, I have read teachings from Hindu masters that indicate a half lotus is perfectly acceptable if the full lotus position makes you too uncomfortable (especially for Westerners who did not grow up in the lotus position). If for some reason you cannot be in the half lotus position, you may even perform the meditation seated with your spine comfortably straight. Meditating while lying down works too, though you may tend to fall asleep.
The most important aspect of your body position during mantra meditation, is to have the spine straight so that the energy can flow easily through your chakras without being blocked. That is one of the reasons why the full lotus is so often used, it brings your body naturally into a good alignment.
Take a deep breath and let your body relax. Then begin to repeat the mantra out loud or in your mind, whatever is comfortable for you. It is recommended to voice it out loud because you are creating a vibration of energy which resonates out into the Universe. Repeating the mantra in your mind also produces the same vibration, just with your thoughts instead of your voice. I have had good success repeating the mantra in my mind, and in my opinion, the vibrations of thought can be just as powerful as the vibrations of your voice.
As you repeat the mantra, om shrim maha laxmi yei swaha, see Lakshmi in your mind. Visualize her gold coins of prosperity showering you in your life. Concentrate your awareness on Lakshmi, sometimes you might imagine her smiling as she bestows good fortune upon you. Let your breath flow naturally, as your mind calms down, your breathing will slow, this is natural.
Say the mantra 108 times with Love and Compassion in your heart. 108 is a very sacred number in Hindu tradition, all sanskrit mantras should be repeated 108 times for a complete meditation cycle. If you only have a short amount of time to meditate, 12 times is a good number, but 108 is the best. Even saying it 15 or 25 or 68 times is perfectly fine, sometimes the real world requires your attention or you may not be able to finish your complete meditation for some reason. Consider 108 repetitions as a meditative practice goal.
It is nearly impossible to keep count while meditating, that is why prayer beads known as a Mala are used. You hold the mala necklace which has 108 beads and each time you say the mantra you move one more bead through your fingers until you get to the beginning of the mala again. It works incredibly well, freeing your mind to concentrate on meditating.
As you meditate, you may find that your mind wanders onto other thoughts, gently move your mind back to Laxmi, or the mantra, or just nothingness. I have found it especially effective to just focus all of your attention on just saying the mantra. Try to find the time to perform the meditation about once per day for maximum benefit. When you really start to get good at it, mantra meditation can actually be addictive. Especially at the higher spiritual levels of consciousness, such as Yogi Masters attain, when they begin to experience bliss and unity. Seek balance, it is not necessary to spend *all* of your time in meditation.

great article I am with you...and i totally agree with you
With positive vibes and energies you can establish a direct connection with god.
I tried this mantra as an experiment with spirituality. I was out of my profession for more than a year. I completed the prescribed number of repeatitions, I think 200000 and got the job within 15-30 days of completion.
What a "coincidence"! I had a similar picture of Lakshmi on my refrigerator door that the wind blew off. I discarded it, but after reading your hub, I'm going to print out another copy and give your meditation a try.
I can say from practical experience that chanting "OM" is VERY healing. After doing it for only a week or two, I lost my tolerance for alcohol. One margarita gives me a headache now. So there's definitely something to those mantras. Thanks for sharing.
Though I am familiar with the Lakshmi Mantras I only chant 2-3 times when doing daily puja. For meditation or chanting i normally use the om namashivaya mantra or mahamrityunjaya mantra.
Thank your for this! I discovered the moola mantra a couple of years ago and use it all the time. I have tapes too. Mantras are fascinating and I have found that they do indeed work, but not always in the way I expect. This is wonderful, I really appreciate it. :)
thankyou so much and many blessings to you and yours for sharing this! i will engage the power of laxmi! great is my abundance!

Hi and thanks for this hub.
108 is a great number in my spiritual way too.
There was a time when we would use the mala which
has 108 beads.and the master bead would be the Guru.
and the 108 beads would be the steps around the Guru / master's house. We dont use this anymore but it was an interesting 'experiment'.

Thank you for this mantra. I will pass it around. Mantra is certainly a mental and spiritual SOS pad.

My mantra for day to day is " OM SHRI MAHA LAKSMIYE NAMAHA". I am doing the japa for the last 10 years. It has become a part of my breath. Am comfortable with it. It provides me the inner peace when in distress or when in happiness. Actually the financial position improves a lot if you recite this mantra. Do not change your mind initially if the results are zero. Continue further to infinity and Lakshmi may bless you at some point.
Great hub on Lakshmi. Thanks
awesome meditation.it really works in every aspect.
This is a great article. I just tried the mantra
and felt such a sense of peace and well being.
Thanks for posting this!
I love Lakshmi! Beautiful Hub!
I have been reciting the Lakshmi mantra for a while. I can not describe in words how much peace/bliss you get out of the mantras. It is definitely additive as someone mentioned.I guess, the blessings that you get out of these mantras will blend with your daily life and you may not notice that in a open or obvious way.
Each Mantra is to be awokened by repeated recitation.
I am in some problem in present. I will try it out.
Do I need to close my eyes ? How soon will I notice financial changes after doing this....
I am broke and hence the question
excellent aricle , but a very important note to concider. reciting this mantra or any other , requires devotion , spiritual cleanliness, and most of all PATIENCE. Many a folks , recite a mantra and expect miracles, yes they do happen but not to the large majority. However , if you beleive in this mantra , and beleive that Mother Luxmi will change your badluck , then trust me , prosperirty is on your door step. Namaste to all of you , and may all your wish's be granted
Meditation has been explained in such an easy manner. I am definitely going to try it.
I have created a website for keeping track of the 108 repetitions. You are welcome to try it.
Your article was great! Made me want to read more.
I would definitely try this out. Thank you for the mantra meditation techniques you gave.
Whenever I chant mantras..I feel very exhausted and tired...This is because all NEGATIVE ENERGIES leave body..Good sign of effect of mantras
Now i can see why US is so prosperous, good luck guys.i'm new here.
I too tried alots with different lakshmi mantras for year's but it failed and finally the Results were Zero !
Thank you for wealth tool of meditation of Maa Laxmi devi.
Trust me,this mantra really works.when I was financially down, this mantra help me to win lottery few times.keep on chanting 108 times for 42 days and will see results before the 42 days.
i will try.
nice article.
thanks dear.
All of the above is true and also i wanted to add a little something about the way of chanting with beads(mala) which is absolutely the right way to do it.
The mala can be used in two ways. It is traditionally held in the right hand and beads are moved towards the user one by one synchronized with each mantra recital.
In one method, the mala is hanging between the thumb and the ring (third) finger. The middle (second) finger is used to rotate the mala. The other way to use the mala is to let it hang on the middle finger with the thumb used to move the beads. (the index finger is never used to touch the beads).
Also recently there has been a new practice in India that instead of using Tulsimala( Tulsi beads) people are practicing chanting with Crystal Quartz beads for all the good reasons.
Crystal Quartz is known as the "master healer" and will amplify energy and thought, as well as the effect of other crystals. It absorbs, stores, releases and regulates energy. Crystal Quartz draws off negative energy of all kinds, neutralizing background radiation, including electromagnetic smog or petrochemical emanations. It balances and revitalizes the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes.
It cleanses and enhances the organs and subtle bodies and acts as a deep soul cleanser. Crystal Quartz enhances psychic abilities. It aids concentration and unlocks memory. Stimulates the immune system and brings the body into balance. Clear Quartz harmonizes all the chakras and aligns the subtle bodies. Recalls forgotten memories, solves problems, dispels negativity and finds capabilities we thought we had lost.
This stone amplifies prayers, wishes and positive visualizations. Keeps you in touch with your spiritual side, and reminds you that you are a spiritual being, having a human experience. All spiritual pursuits can be stimulated and amplified using this stone's energy.
Crystal Quarts is associated with all the chakras.
If you are planning to buy these AMAZON is the way to go.
They have good beads which I recently bought. Best quality. All the other sites have exact same or low qulity for double price. Mine cost around $22. The right
price.
Good luck to you all.
This is my second day chanting. I feel calm and thankful afterwards. What a wonderful gift. Thank you.

I try it a few months ago and believe me it really worked out for me, unexpectedly. I did receive positive result at the right time. Just say the mantra with a pure heart it take a little time but it will all come to you in a timing. When you feel you are desperate and nothing is happening at the same time don't give up hope as I said it wlll come to you. Little things may come your way a bit easier and faster. Oh yes it does take away negative energies.
Am a strong devotee of OUR GREAT MAHALAKSHMI. Have faith in her and all your prayers would be answered amicably and fruitfully. Do not test her however be truthful to yourself to capture her rewards! GO ON THEN.............
OM MAHALAKSHMI NAMA.
